Lecturer John Hyatt claims he has
taken photos of fairies over the past 2 years in Rossendale Valley,
Lancashire. He expresses that his photos have not been photoshopped in any way.
Hyatt
is the Director of Manchester Institute for Research and Innovation in Art and
Design at Manchester Metropolitan University.
At first, he was shocked by it and made sure by going outside
again to take more pictures of bugs, which, he found, did not resemble the
pictures he took.
'I went out afterwards and took pictures of flies and gnats
and they just don't look the same. People can decide for themselves what they
are. The message to people is to approach them with an open mind. I think it's
one of those situation where you need to believe to see. A lot of people who
have seen the say they have brought a little bit of magic into their lives and
there's not enough of that around.'
Hyatt is showing the photos in an exhibition titled
‘Rossendale Fairies’ in The Whitaker Museum in Whitaker Park in Rossendale,
throughout the spring.
It brings back the
memories of the Cottingley Fairies of 1917, where young girls Elsie Wright and
Frances Griffiths took the infamous black and white photographs of themselves
with winged fairies. The exhibition is named ‘Rossendale Fairies’ in memory of
the ‘Cottingley Fairy’ photographs in Yorkshire almost 100 years ago.
